Ladders are one of the most fundamental architectural forms, suggesting movement through space and endless possibilities. These are sculptures about journeys taken as we grow and change. One of the original motivations for the sculptures was my son’s departure for college. It felt to me that he was simply shifting to another route to continue his life journey, so each ladder has a platform or launching place from which another journey can begin. Boats, baskets, and more ladders become part of the “travel.”
